For Whitby families
Whitby has grown quickly, north through Brooklin and out along the 407, and its schools have grown with it.
The Galt Academy is an independent school for Kindergarten through Grade 6, opening in Durham Region, and we'd be glad to have Whitby families in the founding cohort.
Where it will be
Not decided. The site is chosen once the founding cohort is full, and where those families live is what decides it. Whitby is central to the region, which counts in its favour.
The form asks your town and how far you'd drive. Those two answers are the mechanism, not a courtesy.
Questions about Whitby
How does this compare to a Whitby public school?
Far smaller groups, and a timetable with money, building things, fitness and the outdoors on it as subjects. We'd rather describe our own school than characterise anybody else's.
Can our child start mid-year?
Not for the first cohort, which starts together. After that we'd look at it case by case, because joining a small group partway through is a bigger adjustment than it would be in a large class.
Will the school be in Whitby?
Possibly. Nothing is signed, and where the founding families live decides it.
When does it open?
When the founding cohort is full. Everyone on the list hears the moment a date is set.
